Our is an architecture and research studio specializing in education, culture, industry and site-specific art in public space. We build identity based on strong form and expression. Our work is driven by human dialogue, technological development, a strong engagement in art, and involved analytical processes.
Foundation
In 2018 we established Our Architectural Office to gather the diverse things that interest us under the same roof. Coming from a background in fashion retail, school architecture, libraries, and industry - as well as strategic facility planning,
photography, and public art - we had a strong urge to direct our work towards a common purpose.
Studio
Based in Malmö, Sweden and Bergen, Norway we are building a studio on a foundation based in art and form, combined with an analytical and inclusive approach. We believe in curiosity, critical thinking, and getting caught up in open-ended discussions. Progress to us always comes from a place of openness and a strange inexplicable strive to never be content. We talk a lot and make a lot.
Architecture and research
We work in architecture on projects with high degree of specificity for education, culture, and industry. In our design process we combine dialogue and bespoke analysis tools with exploration of form and space. Bringing together use and expression is inherant to us wether for a visualization centre in Royal Djurgården or an artist's atelier in Rosengård.
Parallel to commissioned work we engage in experimental research, currently through the projects 'Emergence of the complete' - funded by the The Swedish Arts Grants Committee and 'Learning from present' - A research project funded by Trafikverket.
Public art
Site- and building-specific art is an integral part of our practice. We work in partnership with artists - or as their consultants - involved from idea to realization. In collaborations we contribute with our understanding of space, form, concept and manufacturing to the process.
By deploying and challenging our tools as architects we are able to push the boundaries of what is possible within a public art project. These projects are rewarding in themselves - 3D-scanning trees, printing seaweed, simulating textiles or designing 500m custom made light fixture - but they also inform our view and process of architecture.
